Czech Mate
It’s true, we fell head over heels with the farm-to-drink craze, but let’s be honest while we love our cucumber martinis, their original novelty may have worn off a bit. Not to worry! This recipe will (fingers crossed) return your cucumber libation to its former glory days. Enter “Czech Mate”. The secret ingredient that really sets this drink apart is Becherovka.
Made in the Czech Republic according to a secretly guarded formula of 30-plus herbs and spices- among which are cinnamon, anise and clove, Becherovka feels less thick and syrupy than other herbal cordials. It’s fun to play with and great for adding complexity and depth to a wide range of cocktails and that’s why Becherovka is on the Flair Project’s “must have” list.
Chilled and sipped by itself, Becherovka is a very pleasant digestif. When mixed with tonic water and a generous squeeze of lemon, it blossoms into a light and fizzy refresher. And if you’re looking to spice up your classic hot toddy, add a splash of this herbal tonic and have yourself the most delightful warm cocktail.
