Design a cocktail around the glass? Yes, we can! Ivo here, hi everyone.

As bartenders, our cocktail creations are often influenced by seasonal flavors and inspired by trending ingredients. But as cocktail enthusiasts ourselves, the thrill of trying out new booze and creating something different and exciting is what keeps us going forward. And yes, sometimes, we get our cocktail muse from the most unlikely of sources – like today’s inspiration, a Khordz glass…well, a mug to be more precise.

khordz mugs

A few weeks ago, I was scrolling down on Instagram, looking for some inspiration, when this rather bizarre yet awesome looking coffee mug caught my eye. Well, to be honest, I am really not the coffee drinker type (too hyper by nature to drink coffee) but I am always looking for something unique I can use when making cocktails and this mug was too interesting to scroll pass. So, I clicked on the Khordz website to see if they’ve used that mug for cocktails, only to find out that Khordz (what a cool name by the way) was created by good friends of mine from my college years, Daniel and Krista. I miss those cool kids (sorry for the photo guys, I just had to)

After digging a little bit about their mug’s story, I found that the Khordz jug was inspired by the ambition to live a simple life and preserving what Daniel loves the most – the ocean. I applaud their mission, and even though, this cup wasn’t really designed for cocktails, I knew Khordz had more than coffee and tea in its arsenal. I loved the mug from the moment I saw it, I just had to design a cocktail for it. But what?

And then it all clicked – it’s summer! It’s the season to be outdoorsy and adventurous and, of course, slip in a cocktail or two in between and the Khordz mug was the perfect glass accommodate such a lifestyle.

Luckily, it just so happens that last week we made this virgin Banana-Nutmeg shrub, that we thought would be the perfect cocktail ingredient this summer. And speaking of perfect summer ingredients, we couldn’t think of a more refreshing beverage than an ice cold beer on a hot summer day. And yes many won’t think of a cold brew as a “normal” cocktail fixing. But, you know us, we love to try new things. And after experimenting with ingredients like rum, fresh lime juice, coffee bitters and ice cold Modelo, the SAND AND HOPS was born. This was that easy going, refreshing summer cocktail we were looking for. And the Khordz mug made the perfect home for it.

Personally, I can see myself enjoying a cold SAND AND HOPS at a backyard gathering with friends, or even during one of our famous volleyball session on the beach (yes, I might be known to have a cocktail in between sets to get my game going, don’t judge me, it works). But no matter where you are this summer, this is one drink that will have you go bananas. Another bar quality cocktail you can make at home.

So, cheers to drinking in style, summertime, and saving the planet.
